Colliery Gestures. Nanticoke, PA
Nanticoke is a small, coal mining town in central Pennsylvania. It reached its height of success and population in the 1930s, peeking at 27,000. The Pennsylvania Railroad was the sole provider of transportation to the Susquehanna Coal Company and its collieries. The business relationship between the two companies persisted until the merger of the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central Railroad in 1968 (becoming the Penn Central Transportation Company) and Susquehanna Coal Company dissolved.
